DIY Adventures

So I know I'm not a DIY blogger... but I've been doing some painting and projects around the house lately, and I'm excited about them, so thought I'd share...

Which is not to indicate that I'm not writing OR that I don't have any book-related news to share. I do! There's a cover reveal coming Monday! And a conference this month where I'm moderating a panel with some awesome authors -- Kimberly Kincaid, Tracey Livesay, and Carey Heywood! I'm super excited to get to ask them some questions about how contemporary romance authors develop conflict -- I'll be taking notes for sure! Check out the event here -- Virginia Festival of the Book

OKAY... Now on to the topic at hand. My husband is annoyed because I've been insisting lately that HGTV can be used as a verb. Yesterday I told him, "I totally HGTV'd Turbo's room in like two days." He said this makes no sense, and yet, he totally understood what I said. And I'm about to show you what I HGTV'd in there, but first, I did my office... it was a bit of a leap because I wanted something daring. And bold. And with trees... Here's the finished product there:

It's hard to capture the whole thing in one shot.. there are grey and white chevron curtains on the window... I'm super happy with how it turned out...

And this weekend, I did my biggest little's room. We bought a house last year, and the big guy got a big room all to himself, but it's the darkest room in the house. And it was painted a drab blue color, which is really not his thing. He recently picked out some city prints with the names of cities and a print of the Eiffel Tower to hang on his walls. He asked if he could have one of my NYC prints, too, and so the idea for a kind of cosmopolitan kid room took shape. He also loves red, and I wanted to make it a room that he could live in for lots of years. (Because, honestly, this takes a ton of work, and I have it in me to do something this big maybe twice in their childhoods...)

So here is the room before...

Before, with it's one sad little window...

And the other wall. Blah.

And the other wall. Blah.

And in progress...

Taping the stripes took a lot of patience and measuring. I hate measuring. Like...seriously. My husband will tell you that I eyeball pretty much everything. Which usually ends in me doing everything twice. I'm just over forty. I think maybe I've learned this lesson now.

The skyline just got taped one building at a time, and I even used a level so only a few of the buildings are leaning.

Here is the final result! Scroll through left and right to see all the shots. (Do I need a fisheye lens to capture rooms? Someone help.)

There have been times where something has had to be "good enough"... but I'm really pleased with how this turned out!

Now I'm off to prepare for the panel and do some actual writing!

Watch here Monday for the cover reveal of The Glittering Life of Evie McKenzie, the follow up novel to Prohibited! from Carina!
